Chainflip (FLIP) is a native-asset cross-chain swap network whose validator token is bought with a portion of swap fees.
As wallets route native Bitcoin and stablecoin swaps, Chainflip reported $439 million of network volume in August, including traffic from MetaMask and THORSwap integrations. Fee-funded purchases burned 707,334 FLIP that month against 334,000 new validator tokens; its planned FLIP 2.1 change would replace emissions with fee-backed staking rewards.
At approximately $27 million in circulating value, approximately $267,000 of recent 30-day fee-funded FLIP purchases could matter if swap activity holds. The planned tokenomics change may draw attention in coming weeks, but a September Tron vault exploit, thin FLIP trading and upgrade delays are material risks.
Opinion: FLIP appears potentially undervalued if native cross-chain swaps sustain fee-funded token demand and Chainflip delivers its planned emissions replacement, though security and liquidity risks remain.
